Various Types of Nursing Courses Which You Can Study Online

The individuals who are planning to begin their career in the health care industry are having the right to choose from any of the Nursing Courses available. Learning the basic skills along with possessing enough knowledge in the nursing field can be carried out very easily by enrolling in courses which the institutes or schools are offering. In order to choose a particular course in the specific field, he or she should first determine the preference and then make a thorough search for it. The Nursing Education which is offered by the schools may vary depending on several elements.

However, the courses are being standardized by the respective state and will be providing some of the essential information which a student should be aware of. It is really important to get familiarized with the various programs which are being offered by the aspiring nurses. This is due to the actual statement that, each of these courses is having its own training procedures and specializations. Some of the common Nursing Degrees which are offered in this sector is being mentioned in this article. Bachelors of Science, Associate in Practical Nursing, Masters of Science and some other advanced programs are being open in this health sector.

In addition, there are even practical classes or virtual classes which are conducted by some of the institutes. Currently, there are lots of nursing universities and colleges which are providing their courses through online with regards to the convenience of those who aspire to become nurse but don’t have an adequate amount of time to attend the classes. The virtual classes have now become the trend and this has now enabled a wide range of the society so as to benefit from learning through the online classes. Degrees, diplomas, certificates and even higher education qualifications have now made available for the nursing studies via online.

The contents and the structuring of the online courses in nursing will be the same as that of the on campus courses. The outcomes along with the objectives are expected to be similar to that of the traditional classes and in addition, these online classes will be providing you better convenience in learning the lessons. The only difference is that, the written examination which is often conducted within the campus will be replaced with the coursework in detail. You can receive more information of the coursework details by searching in internet. The future opportunities for this sector are found to be really high.

While opting for online classes, you don’t have to worrying thinking whether you will be able to get the same as that which you are getting from on campus. There are further areas in the medical branch which are providing various attractive medical courses such as medical assistant ship qualifications, associate nursing degrees in nursing and so on. The opportunities in this field are wider once you are getting your degree in this medical sector. Right from the bachelor’s degree, you are having many areas of specialization. This will allow you for enhancing your skills and knowledge in this specific sector of nursing field.

NCLEX

NCLEX is the exam one takes when one “sits for the boards “in the US. It is the exam that determines whether or not you are licensed as a nurse after completing all the required nursing courses. Stands for “National Council (something for the L –I’m having brain fade) Examination.” When I became licensed as an RN, the exam was a state board exam, but has more since been standardized as the NCLEX nationwide.  The NCLEX is a national licensure exam. Without passing it in the US, you pretty much do not have a job, because you won’t have a license.

It consists of a computer exam. You can answer from 75-265 or so questions. When the computer decides you have demonstrated competency, it shuts off (very freaky moment when it does this) he general perception is that once you have answered enough questions to pass, the computer shuts off, so the fewer questions you have to answer, the better you did. This is only partly true. . It will shut off when you have answered either enough correct to pass, OR enough wrong to fail. If you answer a number of them right and still a number of them wrong, it could take almost the entire number of questions on the test to distinguish a pass or fail grade. Point being that whether any individual’s test takes 75 questions or 275 questions is not an indicator of pass/fail.

I took the state boards before NCLEX came about and long before the tests were computerized. At that time, the tests were given twice a year (Feb and July, I think) and in designated locations throughout the state. Those of us in the Los Angeles metropolitan area had to go to the L.A. Sports Arena two days in a row. Everyone had to go both days for pencil and paper multiple choice tests — the ones where you have to “darken the little block completely” on scan sheets. It was not a pleasant experience. There is a separate RN and LPN exam, and in the US, one is not an RN or LPN without it. We are just graduate nurses.

When Our Doctors would rather be Nurses

There is decidedly something wrong in the way we look at our contemporary situation if it is true that many of our doctors would rather be nurses,” so recently said a public school teacher whose son is a nurse working in one of Cebu City’s big private hospitals. The remark was made apropos of talks that many doctors have turned to enrolling in schools of nursing, availing themselves of the privilege of finishing the course in a shorter period.

The situation has generated no little bit of irritation and resentment among the nurses working in Cebu’s many hospitals. It appears that a good number of practicing doctors have reportedly moved into the nurses’ professional territory. This feeling is said to have been aroused by the talks about some doctors who have turned to nursing courses leading to a degree, a situation that may lead to an unfair competition in the profession.

But the situation is not really as bad as it is perceived against the backdrop of the domestic condition. If the motive behind the doctors’ actuation is considered, practicing nurses are not actually placed at a serious disadvantage against the potential services of a two-discipline capability of physician-nurses. It is said that the doctors have a “foreign” rather than a domestic interest in deciding to take up nursing as additional course.

However, some nurses I know working in our local hospitals are gravely disturbed by the fact that the doctors who are presently enrolled in nursing courses are actually hoping to compete with them in seeking jobs abroad. On top of this, doctors who are now enrolled in nursing enjoy the advantage in that they are having their medical profession as their preparatory course to the nursing career.

Lpn to Rn Transition

In England, the equivalent LPN nursing courses (Enrolled nurse, EN) was phased out in the early nineties.  Therefore, there were hundreds of nurses with this qualification who were pressured to obtain the Registered General Nurse  (RGN) qualification. Don’t sweat the exams-easy, peasy.  You have been practicing years. And if you reckon you have been set in your ways, what a blissful time to re-instate research based practice.

I wa an LPN for 8 years before I got my RN. I thought the LPN exam was harder but then I was less experienced and the LPN exam wasn’t computerized. I just got my BSN this past May and will pursue my MSN in informatics starting this fall. I think what was awkward for my transition was that when you become an RN people will regard you as a new nurse and not acknowledge your time and experience as an LPN and I think that is a function of how our profession excessively identifies with education to the point of being educratic, but you won’t change our profession so just thicken your skin a little and good luck.

Nursing Degree Courses in Ireland

The first degree course for nurses has been established in Dublin City University.  The programme, which involves a three-month access course followed by a one-year programme, provides registered nurses with an opportunity to advance their knowledge of the profession in the context of changes and developments in health care. The Dublin City University claim is not true in relation to offering the first degree in nursing in Ireland. It may be true

that they are offering the first one year degree programme in nursing. University College Dublin has been offering a nursing degree since 1984 years. The Royal College of Surgeons is also offering a post registration part time B.N.S. degree for the past three years. I also understand that University College Galway are offering a degree in nursing courses, if not this year then certainly it will be in place by next year. I would not want our colleagues in the United States and the rest of the world to think that Ireland nursing is not moving towards a graduate profession!

Forensic Nursing

Forensic nursing is nursing in restricted environments of security such as in prisons.  It can be very interesting but the imposition of security namely the guards overcomes many nursing ideologies  eg try comforting someone who is very suicidal through a ten inch cement wall with a security officer standing beside you who has a very unsympathetic attitude to your client   …the crim..  Caring is the core of our profession and when we cannot demonstrate basic caring it cripples much of our interventions to the client eg eye contact, facial empathy or sympathy, a gentle touch, understanding and humor.

In Australiaone can do a post graduate qualification in Forensic nursing….. It mainly Mental health Stuff or Psychiatric Nursing Courses but is very good if you can survive the type of staff with whom you associate in jail or goal.  The clients are OK they are merely human beings who often have a poor socioeconomic or sociosocial background together with a health problem… The security staff has off the planet psych problems usually a bullying or aggressive personality etc etc…   Conditions for nurses are usually good and pay is attractive.

Duties of a Dental Nurse

‘Dental nurses’ do a 2 year polytechnic course in Dental Therapy, and qualify as dental therapists, responsible for primary care of the teeth of children and adolescents. They work on first and second teeth.  Most NZ schools offer free dental therapist care annually to all pre and primary school children.  Dental nurses are becoming less common and seeing children less frequently though.  They used to see children 6monthly, and now see them yearly or 18monthly

Dental hygienists can do a one year full time polytechnic course. National Certificate in Dental Hygiene is what they graduate with, and they can clean, polish, educate and advise tooth care, but they don’t drill.  Dental hygienists can also practice alone, but they are more limited in what they can do for clients. Chair side assistants are a different category again; they assist dentists, and are unable to practice independently. They do a 20 lecture course and sit dental nursing courses association exams

Dental hygienist assists a dentist. In New Zealand schools there are dental clinics in which dental nurses perform routine dentistry on children … they are allowed to work on first teeth only, and any major works get referred to fully qualified dentists … they do routine work including fillings, unaided.

The dental nurse came round twice-yearly and did the entire routine dental work on both first and permanent teeth.  That included filling cavities, but not extractions or orthodontia work for which the children would be referred to a dentist in private practice and the cost subsidized. Dental nurses were trained in dentistry at the Otago medical school and weren’t just half-trained amateurs.

Qualifications Needed to Become A Nurse

If you have bachelors you may have some of the classes needed but maybe not. Going the RN route seems like it would take you a lot longer than doing a post back. Also because of instructor shortages all the schools in my area are a lot more competitive than you may think and because of class space you could be waiting term after term to get into needed classes.

Anyway the main point is to would look into something else as RN might take a lot longer than you intended. Nursing is actually its own whole career, not just a stepping stone to being a physician. So first you committed yourself to art history (or whatever your other degrees are in) then you committed yourself to being a nurse and now you are committed to being a doctor? It might be hard to convince the med schools that you are serious (and committed)

Also, the classes you take to get to nursing aren’t the same as the classes you take for premed. So you are going to take bio for nurses and then later have to take general bio, etc. So that’s a waste of money. AND you are going to waste several years getting the degree, working, and then going back for post-back classes. That is a lot of wasted time and opportunity cost. If you want to be a doctor, you should work toward that.

Finally it’s also sort of an ethical problem since there’s a nursing courses shortage and you would be taking a spot from someone who actually wants to be a nurse for the long term. This also might be something the med schools take into account. I remember reading that it’s harder to get into med school from nursing than anything else. I think this was in one of those Barron’s books.

Bridge Course

Perhaps you should be reminded that in many degree paramedic programs, in order to get the college credit (at least the few I am familiar with), many students take the pre nursing courses A&P classes (which I already have) plus have a semester of pharmacology, pathophysiology, not to mention 8 quarter hours of advanced pathophysiology as part of masters, plus the fact that with credentials 6 years experience as an ER/ICU nurse, almost 10 years as an EMS educator, and a masters degree in critical care/ trauma nursing  there are many aspects of the cogitative components and psychomotor skills that I am deficient in.

Do paramedic’s who become nurses have to repeat redundant material…yup? If you take a degree class, of course the school would accept some of your credits.  Like any other school program, probably not all. By the way, most nurses (except nurse practitioners) don’t incubate and paramedics do.  Among other reasons, this is why I feel that nurses should not be simply handed a paramedic card because they are a nurse.
