It is our volunteers - through their work on events, issues and working groups - who really set the tone each year at the Centre. We encourage everyone to get involved in a way which will excite and challenge them.
Passionate about something? Want to talk about a topic? Want to run an education campaign? The Centre has a number of working groups which are small groups devoted to a specific issue such as body image or racism. We support our working groups by helping them publicize, giving them a space in which to meet, resources and finances.
To Become a Centre working group, you must have three committed members, fill out an application form (available at the Centre) and meet with the Volunteer Coordinator. Your group must be open to all (exceptions made in the case of groups who want to focus on a particular group of women, ie. trans women or Native women), hold some open and widely advertised meetings, write short monthly reports for the Steering Collective and submit a copy of your minutes to the Steering Collective.
Interested in joining a group? Interested in starting a new group? Contact usThe Centre organizes many events throughout the year and we always need people to help out. We're also looking for people to just come out! Tell your friends and classmates about upcoming events, the more the merrier. If you have an idea for another event, let us know and we can help you make it happen.

TRENT WOMEN'S CENTRE AGM ON TRANS ISSUES NOV 9th
As part of the Trans Events Committee's Trans Conference, November 7-9, the Trent Women's Centre hosted a special Annual General Meeting on Nov 9th related to the Centre' s process of becoming gender inclusive and a service- and space- provider to trans-identified folks.
The membership meeting featured a presentation from Transmission member Kira Alleyne on her community-based research project involving a Trans Needs Assessment of the Trent and Peterborough communities and the ways in which the Trent Women's Centre can become more trans-inclusive.
At this meeting, the Centre's direction towards becoming gender inclusive and trans accountable was discussed and a task force was struck to bring about these changes, with the help and input of our membership and the wider community. Available at the Centre are documents outlining work by our staff, Steering Collective members, and our membership towards new changes in the Centre's policy and mandate as well as minutes form the meeting and TCCBE research project by Transmission member Kira Alleyne on Gender Inclusivity at the Trent Women's Centre. These documents can also be emailed to anyone who is interested.
At the meeting, the following statement was created by those in attendance representing the Centre's membership:
The Centre's membership has agreed to restructure and reorganize its space, services, and resources to reflect a more trans and gender inclusive and anti-oppressive framework. A task force has been formed to review the Centre's mandate, policies, and name, and propose changes. We are implementing these changes as we negotiate a new identity and space that may not be reflected in our current mandate and policies. We value any input; contact us with and comments or questions or if you're interested in getting involved. Please drop by the Centre or email the task force at or call 742-7195.
Running our resource library is an enormous task. We always need people to sign up for library hours to keep the space open, shelve books, and promote the space.
Write us an article for our regular column in the Arthur, be a guest on our radio show, create an eye-catching poster, and generally help us promote the Centre.
Stop by our office! Our space is here for you to use: chat with our staff, have a cup of tea, browse our resources or do your homework. Or come out to an event.
